Great quality secondhand clothes from a pet and smoke free home!

I love shopping and equally selling my unworn clothes. I am in the middle of a great clear out of clothes and thought I may as well share with my blog followers incase anyone is interested!

Clear-Out: Welcome to my wardrobe

I have a half length build in wardrobe, a classic floordrobe and a very well stacked chairdrobe. My clothes overtake my room, mainly because of lack of suitable storage solutions in my small living space (my bedroom).

Clothes are kind of a hobby/habit for me. I’m far from fashionable but I like to buy new pieces to add to my collection! Dresses in particular have been a weakness for me since I started earning money after leaving school. So my 2015 Clear-Out is kicking off with tacking this space and money hogging clothes obsession!

Firstly I would like to show a tiny snippet of my wardrobe and what clutter I’m working with. It’s not the worst but it definitely gets in my way and adds so many dramas to my life at unnecessary times like the melt downs and diva strips about not having anything to wear and hating my life for it which somehow is my boyfriends fault (hehe).

I’ve firstly established I have a lot of dresses, too many unworn tops, so many cardigans and I like wearing navy blue and various shades of plum purples and reds. I’ve counted well over 250 items in my wardrobe alone, without opening the summer storage boxes or the overfilled washing pile which currently can’t live in my room as its so big so sits outside my door. I wouldn’t say the aim is to become an owner of a capsule wardrobe created of 10 interchangeable pieces in all shades of beige. I just want to clear oddball items and try to cut out the copy and paste items!

My first tackle is going to be the dresses. These account for over half of my wardrobe and can cause dilemmas when dressing for nights out and special occasions. I will be posting a series of Clear-Out posts to keep myself motivated and to reflect on how effective I have been with my new ruthless attitude! Hopefully it will guide some of those who may be reading looking for some inspiration.

I imagine this to go a little bit like Carrie’s clear out

Hibernating Clothes

I own a fair amount of clothes but before I caught on to the selling frenzy on Facebook and eBay I had a lot more! Despite this, I still can never really love my wardrobe and think ‘yes I have a dress perfect for that occassion’ or ‘my shoes will really compliment my dress’. This could be because I am one of those people who finds something that fits and flatters and buys it in different colours. So if I take away all of the doubles in my clothes, I actually haven’t got much at all!

I’m always buying clothes for the future too. Nice sparkly skirts and dresses that will do for one day but not today. So I have a box full of hibernating clothes. For the remainder for this year I’m challenging myself to not purchase another dress for Christmas or New Years but to use the ones in my wardrobe.

And then of course, I think about those who aren’t fortunate enough to have clothes at this cold time of year all over the world and throw all of the new clothes in a big charity bag just in time for shoppers at Christmas, because the charity needs my unused clothes more than I ever will.

December Essentials

As we approach December and the colder weather starts arriving (very slowly, it’s been a mild year), I thought I would put together a list of what I call my December Essentials.

1) SPF
Although the sun may not be shining as warmly or for a long as we would like sun protection is still a must. A lot of people I know have the misconception that just because it is a ‘cold sun’ it’s UV Rays won’t have the same effect as they do during the summer season. I am no scientist or expert but I believe that they do still have an effect on your skin, especially if you spend a lot of time in the outdoors. So for me, moisturiser with an SPF is a great investment for all year round. I also love a good tinted moisturiser to keep my natural sun-kissed glow.

2) Chunky Jumpers
when I do the classic wardrobe swap I find myself having so much more storage space, beacsue my winter wardrobe consists of dresses and tights or leggings and lots of chunky jumpers to snuggled up in.

3) Scarves
To go with the chunky jumpers and dresses, I have a lot of scarves which have just become a wardrobe staple for me all year round. A great way to make a plain outfit look a bit more ‘fashionable’ and they create endless amounts of outfits!

4) Vaseline – Rosy Lips
Many people I know aren’t much of a fan when it comes to Vaseline for your lips. It’s been known to dry them out more and can have a slimy texture. But for me it works and I love just being able to top it up during the day without a mirror and having to check if it’s bleeding around my lips to make me look like a clown. The Rosy Lips version ‘pinkens’ my lips to a natural shade and people often say they like my lipstick!  A bargain price too, in most drugstores you can get them for about £1.

5) Socks
More specifically, Christmas themed socks. These are a must to keep your toes nice and warm during Christmas shopping sprees and lazy days in.

6) Cadbury Drinking Chocolate
I don’t mean the instant ‘just add hot water’ type, I mean the real ‘swirl into hot milk’ type. I love having a night in with a big mug of this and some Cadbury chocolate to dip in (melted chocolate in your mouth is the best sensation, I am sure of it).

7) Christmas music
When December hits the playlists change and CDs in my car are swapped to Mariah Carey, Michael Bublé, Now That’s What I Call Christmas and I personally really like the Ally McBeal Christmas Soundtrack. Not forgetting Slade, Shakin’ Stevens and so on.

8) Glitter
The party seasons is very much on our doorsteps, not that I have many party plans, but I still like to add a bit of sparkle into my wardrobe. Whether that be wearing glitter in my clothes or subtly in my eye-shadow it will be there. Most likely on my nails.

9) Decorations
I live with my parents so unfortunately I don’t get to go crazy and decorate my home the way I would like. My mum loves Christmas lights and they do get planted on every flat surface, along with two Christmas trees and candles everywhere. I like to add festivity into my bedroom in the form of lights, candles and cute Christmas ornaments. This was a gift from my mum for my birthday in November:

10) Toby Carvery
My favourite place to eat has to be Toby Carvery, just because I absolutely love a roast dinner. Beef, Gammon and Turkey, Yorkshire puddings the size of your face, endless amounts of vegetables and roast potatoes, and to make it even more yummy in December, they have parsnips and occasionally Brussel sprouts. Of course this has to be topped with copious amounts of gravy, mint sauce and bread sauce.

November Purchases

In-between all of the Christmas shopping I always manage to sneak a few gifts in for myself. Of course keeping in line with my usual rule of buying things at a discounted price or secondhand, I managed to get a dress I had my eye on for a while at less than half price, some festive Christmas socks and a new pair of pumps at £3. Yes, £3.

Dress, F&F @ Tesco. Was £20 reduced to £10 in the sale and a surprise extra £25% off at the till. A bank pleasing £7.50! Should have used the Clubcard vouchers on this beauty.

Cute Christmas socks, New Look. 3 for £4 and 10% student discount makes them a worthwhile investment. They will be worn loads this month!

Pumps, Atmoshphere (Primark) purchased at half price for £3! These are a bit more interesting than my usual plain black pumps for dinners and nights out (I am not really a heel type of girl, being that I am 5″7)

Oh and this cute Disney reusable shopper bag from Tesco for just £1. I am very pleased.
